http://www.foodmatters.tv/content/sunrise-juice-recipe

Ingredients:
  • 1 peeled pink grapefruit
  • 1 peeled orange
  • 1/4 of a peeled pineapple
  • 1 peeled lemon
  • 1 peeled lime

Method:
  1. Peel, chop, juice, and enjoy.
  2. If you would like a larger juice add another grapefruit, orange and another 1/4 pineapple.
  3. Not only does this juice taste amazing and look beautiful but it's full of health benefits

Heath benefits:
  • Pink grapefruit is alkalizing, aids with weight loss, improves skin, boosts immunity, fights allergies, hydrating, boosts energy, improves diabetes, reduce cellulite and boosts brain health.
  • Pineapple is rich in vitamin C, high in fibre, alkalizing, improves fertility, protects against heart disease, prevents asthma, boosts brain health, helps fight cancer, reduces inflammation and aids in digestion which help with weight loss.
  • Lemons are great for detoxing, their very alkaline, rich in vitamin C, restores the body's PH levels, aids in digestion, anti ageing, helps prevent and cure cancer, antibacterial, strengthens blood vessels, regulates blood pressure and keeps your kidneys healthy.
  • Limes are alkalizinganti-inflammatory, controls diabetes, regulates blood pressure, prevents heartdisease, aids in digestion, reduces bad breath, a source of vitamin C, vitamin B6, folic acid, and potassium.

All of these fruits have great health benefits and as they are all citrus fruits they have many of the same health benefits and vitamins but packed together with the added extras from each fruit they give an almighty kick start to your body which is why I love drinking this juice in the morning.

If you don't have a juicer you could juice the grapefruit, orange, lemon and lime with a standard citrus juicer by hand and add it into a blender then blend it with the pineapple.

Happy juicing!

Wrinkles and other signs of aging.

Wrinkles on your face may do much more than show your age

Wrinkles around the eyes are an annoyance for many people who feel that their looks don't mesh with how they feel inside. While wrinkles and other signs of aging may give away one's age, researchers think that they may also be indicative of one's health, according to research from the American Heart Association.
For the study, researchers looked at 10,885 patients over 40 who had participated in the Copenhagen Heart Study. They examined them for various signs of aging, including a receding hairline at the temples, baldness at the top of the head, earlobe creases and yellow fatty deposits around the eyelid. Researchers from the original study followed up with these individuals after 35 years.
Out of that group, 3,401 participants had developed heart disease and 1,708 experienced a heart attack. Interestingly, they found that the signs of aging proved to be indicative of heart problems for many of the participants. Fatty deposits around the eye, which many associate with aging, proved to be the biggest indicators. With each individual sign of aging, the risk of a heart attack increased.
"The visible signs of aging reflect physiological or biological age, not chronological age, and are independent of chronological age," said the study's senior author, Dr. Anne Tybjaerg-Hansen. She recommends that doctors check for these signs of aging during physical examinations.
Of course, simply because one has wrinkles around the eyes or a receding hairline does not mean they will have heart problems later on down the line. And there is no indication that treating such signs of aging will have any impact on one's heart health.
Still, some patients may find that they feel more confident after treatments aimed at reducing wrinkles and other signs of aging. According to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS), most people who seek out a facelift feel that their facial features do not show their energetic spirit.

An Overview of the Skin

Your skin is the largest organ on your body, made up of several different components, including water, protein, lipids, and different minerals and chemicals. If you're average, your skin weighs about six pounds. It's job is crucial: to protect you from infections and germs. Throughout your life, your skin will change constantly, for better or worse. In fact, your skin will regenerate itself approximately every 27 days. Proper skin care is essential to maintaining the health and vitality of this protective organ.
Skin

How Can I Keep Skin Healthy?

  • Thorough cleansing. You should perform this twice daily. At night, make sure you remove all your make-up and cleanse properly before going to bed.
  • Use a gentle soap without fragrance.
  • Balanced nutrition.
  • Moisturizing. This is recommended even for those who have oily skin. There are plenty of moisturizers on the market that are oil-free.
  • Sunscreen.  This is probably the most important thing that you can do for your skin.  Even in the winter and on cloudy days, you should put sunscreen on every day.  This should be done even if you are not outside much.  A sunscreen that says “broad spectrum” (or says it protects against “UVA and UVB”) with an SPF of 30 or higher is necessary. Limiting your time in the sun, especially between the hours of 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., and wearing protective clothing, such as a long-sleeved shirt, pants, and a wide-brimmed hat, are also recommended.
Over the course of your life, you should pay attention to all parts of your skin. Familiarize yourself with it, so you'll notice any changes that might occur, such as different moles or patches that might indicate skin cancer. Whenever you have a question or concern, make sure you see your doctor.

How Does My Skin Work?

There are medical terms for various parts of your skin.  Here's a rough guide to what those terms mean.

Stratum corneum: The Outer Layer of Dead Skin

The stratum corneum contains dead skin cells that used to exist in the epidermis. Using facial scrubs and some other skin products will remove or thin this layer.

Epidermis: The Outer Layer of Skin

The epidermis is the thinnest layer in your skin, but it's responsible for protecting you from the harsh environment. The epidermis has four layers of its own: stratum germinativum, stratum spinosum, stratum granulosum, and stratum lucidum. The epidermis also hosts different types of cells: keratinocytes, melanocytes and Langerhans cells. Keratinocytes produce the protein known as keratin, the main component of the epidermis. Melanocytes produce your skin pigment, known as melanin. Langerhans cells prevent foreign substances from getting into your skin.

Dermis: The Middle Layer of Skin

This is the layer responsible for wrinkles. The dermis is a complex combination of blood vessels, hair follicles, and sebaceous (oil) glands. Here, you'll find collagen and elastin, two proteins necessary for skin health because they offer support and elasticity. Fibroblasts are the cells you'll find in this layer, because they synthesize collagen and elastin. This layer also contains nerves that sense pain, touch, and temperature.

The Science of Ageing

COLLAGEN LOSS
Loss of collagen and elastin from the skin of the face. Skin elasticity decreases and the skin become thinner. Lifestyle choices such as diet and sun exposure have an impact on the rate these factors come into play. Areas with thin epidermis (eyes and lips) receive wrinkles first.

Winter may be the best time to undergo cosmetic surgery

Winter may be the best time to undergo cosmetic surgery

Though many complain about their complexion during the winter, it appears as though the colder season may be the best time to undergo a variety of skin-related cosmetic procedures. Tanned skin may be resistant to many laser procedures, including the removal of sun spots or unwanted hair, according to The New York Times.
